"I was really excited when our school decided to offer the Epic Learning curriculum. We went through the included teacher training and I allowed myself plenty of time before class to get familiar with the content and getting to know the software. The curriculum is really flexible. There are basically three ways to teach with the Epic technology and I decided that initially, I would follow the preset lesson plans so that I could monitor and evaluate my students' progress. I could see how the Epic Learning System and Epic computer is going to free me up to be more of a mentor to my students and deliver more personalized instruction. On the first day, I really made a big deal about Epic and let my students know how special they were to be getting this opportunity. They were all really excited just to even have an Epic. I issued an Epic learning device to each of my students. I hooked up my laptop to a projector and we watched the first lecture together. Every one of my students was engaged. Throughout the week, I followed the lesson plans, and they did their assignments and labs on their Epics. When they took quizzes, their scores were automatically uploaded to my grade book. I can't tell you how much time that saved me, and my students were really excited to get their grades back so quickly. At the end of every lesson, there's an ACT assessment that certifies learning at high school and college levels, giving students an extra incentive to achieve. We all caught on to the system pretty quickly. I felt like I was giving them more than Algebra skills, I was helping my students become more proficient in technology too. The Epic has Internet connectivity, so students can explore and do research online. The Epic is also available as an 'unplugged' model without the ability to connect to the Internet. But they don't have to be connected to the Internet to learn. The courses and learning tools are always available. It has learning and organizational tools to help my students actually find and complete their assignments. But most importantly, it makes them want to learn. The technology is engaging and interactive; the potential for college credit is a huge motivator. The ongoing training and support has been wonderful too. Epic Learning has made the transition easy, and I am so glad my school made the transforming decision to begin teaching the Early College curriculum. It's really brought us into the 21st century." - Jenniffer Allgaier, Teacher
